Wait until your hair is completely dry. Then, put it on low, and if it doesn't straighten completely, hold the straightener there for a while. Not too long though. And remember to buy product that can protect your hair from the heat.

You should blow dry your hair straight first. Then, use a hair clip to move the top half of your hair on top of your head. Then, use a brush and a hair straightener toghether, I usually have it set on the middle dial, but use whatever works. If it's not keeping straight, turn up the level. Then spray with hairspray. I have medium thickness, shoulder length hairand it takes me 20 minutes to straighen. Good Luck!

*Right you can wash your hair before hand but make sure its completley before you start straightening [unless you have wet to straight hair straighteners]

*Next apply some form of heat protection spray to your hair to protect it. You can get this from any good cosmetic store or supermarket, i found Tresemee [cant spell it] was very good.

*I have rather thick hair too so i always use it on high just so that its quicker!

*If you dont have a light on your starighteners to tell you when they are ready you can usually feel when they start to heat up and when they are hot, you can feel that they are hot with out touching them they you are ready to start!!

*To straighten your hair...*

I find it a good thing to get a big clip and leave a small part of my hair down and clip the rest up.

Starting at the roots close the straighteners on your hair and pull down to the ends. You may need to do this a couple of time till the section looks straight.

Then let some more hair down, and straighten that.

Do the same untill all your hair is lovely and straight!!!

Okay first, when your hair is damp, apply a "heat activated" cream or gel (V05 MAKE IT STRAIGHT GEL) works really well. This can b bought at Target, CVS, anywhere really. Then, wait until your hair is 100 % dry, b/c even if it's just a lil damp, if you flat iron wet hair, you'll literally singe it! So, when your hairs good and dry take the straightener, now, since you have thick hair, and low temp, pbbl wouldn't do the job, but avoid high temps. at all possible, a medium temp should suit u well! How long it takes you, is really a personal thing, and when ur done give your hair a spray of any anti frizz hairspray. But if you really find ur struggling to achieve straight hair, ask a stylist about certain products that help.
