How do you straighten hair?

I'm a 26 years old (late starter) and will try straigtening my hair for the first time! I have some of that protective spray and a pair of straighteners. The rest is a bit alien to me.

Hi my name is Stephanie and I'm a cosmetologist. When I straighten my own hair, I usually put a small amount of an oil based product (ie.redken heat glide or farouk biosilk-silk therapy)in my hair first. If your hair is really curly and thick you might want to pull it into a ponytail and smooth out as much as you can to keep from making your arms tired. Start at your neck line with the rest of your hair pulled up. Work your way up in rows of about 1/2 to 1 inch so you will have even pressure and heat through-out. Smooth from root to tip at all times. *TIP* When you get to the top of your head make sure that you straighten in the direction you want your hair to lay (such as parts and bangs) and try not to hold the strait iron in one place for a long time or you will ptt a crease in your hair. When you're finished, put alittle more silk stuff or spray on your fly aways...but careful not to put to much on your scalp (will make too oily and cause drandruff)!

How do you straighten hair?

make sure your hair is all dry then spray on the protective spray and straighten your hair in sections. you can pull some of your hair up in a clip if u want to get it out of the way so you can straighten sections at a time to make it easier. then after you can put a smoothing cream on it to smooth down any flyaways. i use garnier fruticus sleek and shine smoothing serum. and i use v05 heat protecting spray before i straighten my hair. if your hair doesnt hold well in humidity bring a dryer sheet in your purse ( im not kidding ) and if it starts getting frizzy then run the dryer sheet over your hair and it smooths it all out again.

the salon is the best place, they do the best job, just pricey. If not, then try matrix smoothing system. It's easy wash your hair, while it's wet spay this stuff on it (Try buying it at cost cutters, it's less expensive) then you can straighten it with a curling iron (yes, a curling iron) don't curl it just start at the top and slowly pull the curling iron down it a straight motion. You can buy all the stuff for like 50 bucks, and it lasts at least 6 months.

Have some leave-in conditioner handy too; the one that is labeled especially for straightening hair. Before using any electrical appliances on your hair, make sure it's well conditioned because all that heat will damage your hair. Trust me. Don't straighten your hair every week though. Let your hair rest so it can keep its moisture so it won't dry out. Have fun! I was a late starter myself. Enjoy!

How do you straighten hair?

You can go to a salon to get your hair relaxed (do *not* do this at home), use a flatiron (be very careful and use a protective spray, serum, or conditioner because they will damage your hair if you don't), or get a vented round brush with plastic or rubber bristles and a hairdryer on hot or medium heat and blow your hair dry while gently and slowly pulling the brush through small sections of your hair (this is the cheapest and least damaging way to straighten).
