There are two african girls from Liberia attending my church, and they were adopted by a caucasian family. They don't understand how to take care of african hair, and I wanted to help them out. I was wondering if I could straighten their hair without a relaxer. I can afford it, but they can't. Will a deep conditioner, followed by a blow dryer and flat iron straighten it?

yes that will make it really soft. u could buy them a trip to the hair stylist for a chemical hair straightening. if they have short hair then it wont be too expensive.

if you want it to last for awhile, then you need to get a chemical relaxer. if it only needs to last til the next time they wash their hair then you can use a hot comb to straighten it but it will take a lot of heat because their hair is very coarse. your best bet is to take them to a cosmetologist and talk to them about it =]

it might but might not because their hair might be the type that just wont stay that way. mne wont stay curly but that's just because it's naturally really straight so try it and see, if it doesn't work maybe the relaxer is the only thing and that would be a great gift if they couldn't afford it.
