i relax my hair often - and if i didnt my life would be miserable. it just makes your hair straight and more managable. my mum started doing it to my hair when i was 4.

bassically i dont see whats wrong with it and where im from its unexpectable to have natural hair unless its as short as boy hair.

i dont get why there is a big deal about it in america. just do it - but i dont think you can go back to natural afterwards.

make sure not to use cheap *** relaxers though. the best are beautiful beginnings, just 4 u and dark and lovely

you might want to look at this sight though.:

reborning the hair is the best way to straighten but for me, i still think that not stratining your hair is the best as the chemical they used to straighten your hair will do you harm in te future. Using shampoo and conditioner and massaging hair will do some good but takes a longer time as it is a natural proccess. Pretty now and ugly later / quite pretty now and pretty later. Your chioce.. =)

You should go to a reputable salon and have someone do it who is a licensed "Master Stylist" because they have a lot more experience and knowledge. I had a bad perm once at a Walmart shop and waited a bit for it to grow out. Then I went to a shop and asked for help. They did not want a regular beautician to do it because of the chemicals involved, so they called in a master stylist. She removed the perm by straightening the hair and dyed it all in one day and it looked great! She kept saying: 'We have to be very careful and baby your hair through this because of the strong chemicals."

Using a master stylist costs a little more, but they are more likely to know what they are doing.

Good Luck!

Actually I heard the Japanese Yuko Straightening System works really well. It's a little on the pricey side but it actually helps your hair and doesn't damage it as much. However, I'd suggest going to a hairstylist that's experienced with this process. their website is www.yukosystem.com, you can use their salon locator to look for a hair salon near you that utilizes this system.

I'm afraid if you only want to straighten you hair once, getting a perm is not the way for you. This process is one that must be kept up every 6-8 weeks to prevent breakage. If you perm your hair and then decide to go natural, you must be very patient. I have been wearing my hair natural for 8 years, and it can be time consuming at times. I suggest you got to a local salon for a consultation and tell the beautician exactly what you want. I'm sure they will state all of your options. If you'd like to straighten your hair how about using a flat iron with a nice product? This won't be so intrusive and you could go back to your natural hair when wanted. Unlike a perm, you'd have to grow it out, and eventually cut all of the perm out once you decide to go natural again.

Good Luck!

Its very bad for your hair and you would have to be sure first as if you dont like it you have to wait for it to grow out as you cant have a perm again straight after as your hair will be too badlay damaged. It wont make it look thin if your hair is naturally thick it will just be very very straight.

Dont do it unless you are sure in case you dont like it!

Get some advice from a Salon as they will klnow best

you need to straighten/maintain every 4-6 weeks, just like hair color. at least the kind you use at home. ogilive works fine. it's as simple as coloring and works fine. i suppose you could also use a flat iron as well to make it look even straighter. it does work, but like color, you can't just use it once and expect your hair to always be straight. good luck! you'll love waking up and it being straight with little work.

Don't do it if you only want to do it once. Growing it out is worse than growing out a dye job.

There are lots of different way to straighten your hair, like the one girl said you can use a relaxer...but this is mainly used for African American hair. If it's done on Caucasian hair the results will NOT be the same, it will just severely damage the hair. As another girl stated, the Yuko system is famed for working wonders for all types of curly hair. There are only 2 Japanese systems that are very reputable with consistent positive feedback, which are the Yuko system and the Liscio system. They are both very expensive, mostly due to the labor involved. It runs about $100 per hour and I've been told my hair could take 4-5 hours [It's about the length to my boobs]. It's a permanent process though and you just have to get your roots touched up every so often if you choose to continue with it. You will have to do a consultation for whichever one you choose, and you must tell the stylist what type of damage you've had done to your hair in the past [bleach, dyes, perms, etc] so that the stylist can customize the process for your hair type. If you decide to do one of these make sure you research your stylist, and see if she has testimonials available from previous clients. They're wonderful systems that have been called miracles by some but in the wrong hands could lead to disaster %26amp; a huge waste of money. Good luck.

go to a korean salon and ask for a straightening perm. i only go to korean salons (obviously since i'm korean) but all my other friends who went to go get a perm said that koreans' does it the best, since we are obbessed with straight hair and PERFECTED the art of straighteing hair.

it'll make your hair super sleek and if you want your hair to look thinner then ask for them to cut some off the thickness off. some salons actually give you a complimentary haircut.

although it's a LONG process (6 hours for me since i have really thick and wavy hair on the top) it works sooo well and you only need to go back in once every 6 months or so to touch up the roots.

it doesn't damage your root that much because they use a product before, during, after the procedure and they give you a complimentary trim. all you need to do is not tie or wash your hair for three days in order for your hair to remain straight.

hope this helps.

p.s. even before you go into a korean salon to get your hair done ask around. almost all the salons use the same procedure but some salons (like mine) uses a more advanced procedure and also it all depends on what salonists you get becuase this one lady at a salon (not my regular) completely ignored me...

Some of the drugstore hair straighteneing products for African Americans that contain olive oil and no lye are very good for this purpose. Just make sure that you follow the instructions carefully. Read the manual several times.
